Overview

The 5th African Independents Forum 2008 (7th October) focuses on the new and fast-growing local African players in Africa, including Nigeria, with assets elsewhere in the Gulf of Guinea, Northwest Africa, Maghreb-North Africa, Eastern & Southern Africa, and in frontier states.

The Conference features 16 Speakers, and is normally attended by 140 senior executives from Africa and around the world. The Forum is a unique opportunity to meet senior management, discuss new deals, evaluate potential, and get an inside track on the African domestic oil and gas game in which the numbers of Independents has grown substantially.

This special event on Independents is supported by several African organisations, including NAPE, and showcases exploration and development projects and potential of African oil and gas players, as well as the issues facing technical partners and investors. The Independents have spread across the Continent. Their hydrocarbon reserves and production are growing, and they will assume more importance in future, given current policies, as both competitors and partners for Independents and even Super-Majors.

The Conferences closes with a Cocktail Reception, which is also the Ice-Breaker Reception for our 15th Africa Upstream 2008.

The 15th Africa Upstream 2008 Conference follows on over 8-10th October in Cape Town at the BMW-Imax Theatre.

Lead Sponsor
for 15th Africa Oil Week 2007 is Shell.

Overview

This 3rd PetroAfricanus Dinner In Africa will be on Monday 6th October 2008, taking place at the Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town.

At Cocktails prior to the Dinner will be the World Book Launch for Duncan Clarke, Crude Continent: The Struggle for Africa's Oil Prize (Profile Books, London, September 2008).

Our Guest Speaker for the PetroAfricanus Dinner is Andrew Lodge, Vice President, Exploration, Europe, North Africa and Asia, Hess. He will address the Club on Reflections On A Quarter Century In African Exploration

  • Andrew Lodge has had nearly 30 years in the worldwide upstream and is a key executive within Hess, which has acquired fast-growing and extensive acreage and asset portfolio in Africa. He has neem in management roles throughout a long career, in Australia, Southeast Asia and London, and involved in ventures in Australasia, Pakistan, Europe, West Africa and the Maghreb. Hess is well-positioned in North Africa - in Algeria (including via SonaHess, a joint venture with Sonatrach), Libya (in the Oasis Group and Area 54) and Egypt, while it is a key player in the prolific Equatorial Guinea offshore (with a string of discoveries and developments in the Okume complex) and holds producing assets in Gabon. The company acquired the Tano Cape Three Point deepwater block offshore Ghana (just south of the world-class discoveries recently made there), and where it has planned to drill in 2008.

PetroAfricanus has established a worldwide reputation as a key private network for management, African deal-making in oil and gas, and new business relationships for the Continent - supported in Year-2008 by our Corporate Patron: Preng & Associates, and Corporate Sponsor: Ophir Energy, as well as PetroAfricanus Corporate Members (Hess,  Standard Bank), plus numerous Individual Members drawn from around the world and in Africa.
